Marilu Henner is heading to Hope Valley!
The 74-year-old actress has joined the upcoming 14th season of Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart in a role that will bring her directly into Elizabeth Thornton and Nathan Grant’s wedding storyline.
Marilu will appear in at least two episodes as Bernice “Birdie” Grant, the free-spirited mother of Kevin McGarry‘s Nathan.
Who Is Marilu Henner Playing on When Calls the Heart?
Birdie will make quite the entrance in Hope Valley, arriving on horseback ahead of her son’s wedding to Erin Krakow‘s Elizabeth.
Hallmark describes the character as a colorful, well-traveled adventurer who recently returned from Switzerland, where she helped people in need during a church trip. She’s also said to be optimistic, resourceful and prone to a little mischief.
“I’ve been a proud member of the Hallmark family for many years, and now I’m even more thrilled to be part of its crown jewel, When Calls the Heart!” Marilu told People.
She added, “This role is particularly special to me, because I get to play Nathan’s mother, the fabulous and feisty Birdie! And I’m very lucky that Elizabeth is going to be my daughter-in-law!”
Marilu has already started filming her episodes and praised the cast for welcoming her to the series.
The actress is certainly no stranger to Hallmark viewers. She has appeared in more than two dozen movies for the network, including multiple installments of the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise.
What Else Do We Know About When Calls the Heart Season 14?
Season 13 ended with Nathan proposing to Elizabeth after the couple climbed to the top of the Hope Valley water tower.
Their upcoming wedding will also bring another familiar face back to town: Lori Loughlin is reprising her role as Abigail Stanton during the new season. Hallmark previously announced that Lori will appear in six of the season’s 12 episodes.
A recent preview even showed Abigail returning to Hope Valley and telling Elizabeth that she couldn’t miss her wedding.
When Calls the Heart Season 14 will premiere on Hallmark Channel in January 2027, with episodes available on Hallmark+ the following day.
