Colman Domingo is in talks to write an original live-action movie about Princess Tiana!
The 56-year-old actor just received two Emmy nominations this year, for his work in Euphoria season 3 and The Four Seasons season 2, and now Deadline is reporting that he’s eying the creation of an original live-action movie based on the princess from Disney’s animated 2009 film The Princess and the Frog.
According to the outlet, Colman will co-write the script with the Tony-nominated director of Slave Play, Robert O’Hara. But it’s still very early in the development process and nothing has been confirmed or finalized yet.
Is this a live-action remake of The Princess and the Frog?
While Disney has made many live-action remakes of its popular animated films, it sounds like this will be something different since Deadline refers to it as an “original live-action” project. At this stage in development, however, details are scarce.
The 2009 film was the last hand-drawn animated feature from Disney and it was based on E.D. Baker‘s The Frog Princess.

Will Anika Noni Rose return as Tiana?
Anika Noni Rose voiced Tiana in the animated film, but it’s far too early in the process to know if she will reprise the role in a live-action film. No casting has been reported at this time.
What happened to Disney’s animated Tiana series?
Disney previously planned a television spinoff called Tiana for Disney+ that would have seen Anika return to voice Tiana. Unfortunately, the series was later shelved. It would have centered on Tiana as she explored New Orleans. A shortform special inspired by the movie is reportedly in early development as of March 2025.
Disney just released its latest live-action remake in Moana, which is out in theaters now. Find out how audiences rank their favorite live-action remakes from least favorite to most!
