Spain is officially the 2026 FIFA World Cup champion!
Spain defeated defending champions Argentina, 1-0, after extra time in the World Cup Final on Sunday (July 19) at MetLife Stadium (temporarily known as New York New Jersey Stadium during the tournament) in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
After a scoreless 90 minutes the match went to extra time, where Argentina was forced to play with 10 men following Enzo Fernández‘s red card.
Spain finally found the breakthrough in the 106th minute when Nico Williams shot the ball to Ferran Torres, who scored the match’s lone goal to secure Spain’s second World Cup title and first since 2010.
Argentina’s bid to win back-to-back World Cups came to an end.
The historic final also featured the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final halftime show, with performances from Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira, Burna Boy, Coldplay and more.
