Reacher delivered a major cliffhanger in the penultimate episode of Season 4!
The seventh episode of the Alan Ritchson-led Prime Video series, titled “Vote for Sampson,” debuted on Wednesday (September 9) and left the fate of one character up in the air ahead of next week’s season finale.

Is John Sampson Dead on Reacher?
Episode 7 ends with Congressman John Sampson, played by Marc Blucas, putting his own life in danger to stop an attack at his fundraiser.
After Reacher determines that the attack will involve a suicide bomber, he alerts Sampson to the threat and tells him what to look for.
Sampson spots Waberi (Talijah Levene) in the crowd as Reacher races toward the event. Realizing that Waberi is the bomber, Sampson tackles him and sends them both falling into the Delaware River. The device explodes underwater with both men still in the river.
However, the episode ends without showing Sampson again or explicitly confirming whether he survived the explosion. It also does not reveal whether detonating the device underwater completely neutralized the chemical threat.
While the circumstances suggest that Sampson may have sacrificed his life to stop the attack, fans will seemingly have to wait until the Season 4 finale to learn his official fate.
The dramatic moment comes after Sampson reveals another major piece of his past: He was the one who killed General Putra (Rodger Edralin) during the U.S. operation in Indonesia, and Amisha witnessed the killing.
The revelation explains why Sampson’s fundraiser became the target: Amisha could demonstrate the weapon while also getting revenge for Putra’s death.
Reacher Season 4 concludes with Episode 8, titled “Cut,” on Wednesday, September 16 on Prime Video.
The finale arrives on the same day as the premiere of Neagley, the new spinoff series starring Maria Sten as Frances Neagley. Alan Ritchson is also set to appear as Reacher in the new show.
