The creator of the hit HBO series Entourage is slamming a new ad for Jake Paul‘s Betr app.
Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier seemingly reprise their roles from the comedy series for the new commercial, which sees the former arriving at a mansion party in search for the latter.
Once he finds him, Jeremy tells Adrian that he found a new movie for both of them to be in. The outfits and the language between the actors are very reminiscent of their Entourage characters, where Jeremy played Adrian‘s movie star character’s agent.
The ad went viral as fans celebrated the return of Ari Gold (Piven) and Vincent Chase (Grenier), but Doug Ellin, who created Entourage, was less than thrilled.

“Many people worked really hard to make our show as good as it was. When I see cheap, sh**** imitations that try to pass for what we did it makes me puke. Guess I’m stupid like that. Agree ?” Doug captioned a video response on Instagram.
In the video clip, Doug said he received “400 messages” about the “god-awful commercial” and said he was not involved in the ad at all.
The writer and director added that he’s not upset about not being paid for the ad, but wished the writers of the show would get more credit for the work they put into the series’ scripts and character development, only for their work to be cheapened for an “embarrassing” emulation of it.
“I watch it and I want to throw up, because I would suffer, along with many other people, over every syllable, every f***ing word,” he stated. “So I watch this trash, this sh**, and go, ‘Ugh, ugh.’ There’s no bitterness. I want everyone to get paid, get rich. Just f***ing do your own sh**. That’s all.”
Doug also seemingly threw shade at Jeremy, saying he distanced himself from the role over the years.
“I not only wrote, we found these people. We cast these people,” he said of casting the show. “I actually had to beg Piven to do the show because he didn’t wanna do it. And he didn’t wanna talk about it afterwards. Like, he wanted to get away from it, because he had so much better sh** going on. But now he’s back on it, because he’s getting paid.”
A spokesperson for Betr responded to Doug‘s comments, telling Variety, “We were excited to bring Jeremy and Adrian back together, appearing as themselves. Creating that kind of unexpected cultural moment with two amazing actors was exactly what we wanted for Betr 2.0.”
“We’re really proud of how the spot came together, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, generating nearly 10 million organic social views in less than 24 hours,” they added. “We had a lot of fun making it, they had a lot of fun making it, and people seem to be having a lot of fun watching it. We appreciate Doug watching the ad and helping promote it. Betr 2.0 is available now.”
Doug continued to share his thoughts on the ad on X/Twitter.
“I have zero positivity in watching things I busted my ass [off] on for years [be] turned into garbage,” he said. “Go create your own shit. And if you need money … Flip burgers. This is trash and theft. Period.”
Responding to fans who commented on the ad, Doug said, “I think it’s pretty damn obvious I didn’t write. My god.”
When one person said they should do an Entourage reboot, the creator replied, “Piven should write and direct. I can’t wait for watch”
