Christopher Abbott has experienced several milestones this year, but becoming a father sits at the top of his list.

The actor discussed parenthood following the arrival of his first baby with Aubrey Plaza during the Thursday (October 1) episode of Josh Horowitz‘s Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Asked to reflect on a year that included turning 40 and receiving a Tony nomination, Christopher shared that nothing could beat out becoming a dad.

“When you really reflect on it like that, I got to put dad first,” the East of Eden star said during the podcast.

Aubrey gave birth to their first baby earlier this year, just a few weeks after he was nominated for a Tony Award for his playing Biff Loman in the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman.

He also talked about the New York Knicks winning the championship, saying he’s a lifelong fan and has been waiting for that particular win “the longest.”

Christopher is also looking ahead to the next chapter of his life and expressing his excitement for what’s to come.

“I think by now, at least in my work, I sort of worked long enough and feel like I’ve been around and have met and kept really good friends within the business,” he said. “I feel sort of comfortable with work in terms of, like, it comes and it goes. … I’ve gotten more comfortable with that, but having a kid, [turning] 40, getting older, like the bigger existential things, weigh a little bit more.”

Aubrey also stepped out to support Christopher at the East of Eden premiere.
