Maddox Jolie has become the latest of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s children to drop “Pitt” from their last name.
A hearing was held on Monday (September 14) at which Maddox‘s petition to have his name changed was accepted without objection by the judge. He will now be known as Maddox Jolie. He filed the petition earlier this year.
“There are no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” the order stated, per Page Six.
The outlet says he appeared remotely for the hearing alongside his lawyer.
Why Maddox Jolie changed his name
Maddox did not go into detail about his decision, but did list the reason for the requested name change as “personal” on the documentation when he filed the petition in May.
He already started going by his mom’s surname earlier this year, and was credited as “Maddox Jolie” for his work as assistant director on Angelina‘s movie Couture.

Maddox is not the only one of their kids to legally drop the name “Pitt.” Most recently, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt filed to legally remove her father’s name just days after she turned 18.
She completed the last major legal requirement at the end of August and took out a newspaper ad to announce the name change, which is required by law in California.
During the November 2 hearing, a judge will officially approve Vivienne‘s name change request if no one objects.
A week before Vivienne legally filed the petition for her name change, her older sister Zahara, 21, completed a step for the legal process, with her hearing scheduled for September.
Their 19-year-old daughter Shiloh was granted her legal name change in 2024. So far, only Pax, 23, and Vivienne’s twin brother Knox have kept Brad‘s surname.
