The 77-year-old Oscar and Emmy winner starred in the first four seasons of the horror anthology series before exiting after season four, which was titled Freak Show. She briefly returned for two episodes of season 8, Apocalypse, reprising her season one role as Constance Langdon.

Jessica will be returning for season 13 of AHS, which is scheduled to premiere next month, and in a new interview with Vogue, Ryan revealed that she will be reprising all four of her past characters for the new season.

Ryan also revealed that Jessica agreed to return for season 13 under one condition – that she gets to sing.

“I just thought the number 13 was infused with so much stuff in the horror genre, and I wanted to do a greatest hits season,” Ryan shared.

“I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that I could only do it with Jessica,” he continued. “So we had dinner … and I pitched her, and she said, ‘Great. I’m in as long as I have a musical number.’”

Ryan said it was imperative to have Jessica return for the new season, teasing that he’s bringing back characters from across the entire series to fight an ultimate evil.

“I think when you have a show like American Horror Story that has become so long-running and popular, you go back to the origin story of it,” he explained. “And Jessica, that first season, won every award on Earth.”

For her role as Constance Langdon in season one, titled Murder House, Jessica won countless awards, including an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG award.
