Russell Westbrook is hanging up his jersey.
The 37-year-old NBA point guard has announced he is retiring from the sport after 18 years.
Russell shared the news with a retrospective video shared on social media on Wednesday (August 12). Michael B Jordan narrates the clip, which ends on a black screen with the words, “The greatest thing he left behind couldn’t fit inside a museum.”
“Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end,” he shared in the caption. “You had to be there. And now it’s over.”

Russell started his NBA career after being drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2008, which relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder a week later.
He played with the team for 11 years, before being traded to the Houston Rockets, where he played for one year.
Russell‘s career then pivoted to the Washington Wizards for the next year, before going to the Los Angeles Lakers for two years, followed by a move to the Los Angeles Clippers for a year.
He then went to the Denver Nuggets in 2024, and signed with the Sacramento Kings on a one-year contract, which ended earlier this year.
Throughout his storied career, Russell is a nine-time NBA All-Star, has earned the NBA MVP Award, and is a back-to-back NBA All-Star Game MVP!
He is also a two-time scoring champion and a three-time assists leader in the league.
