Sydney Sweeney is breaking her silence on her controversial storyline in Euphoria season 3.
If you don’t know, the 28-year-old Emmy-nominated actress’ storyline on the show’s third season got a lot of attention ever since the season premiered in April. She had numerous racy scenes as her character Cassie Howard was a popular OnlyFans model.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Sydney addressed Cassie’s trajectory in season 3.
“From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved,” Sydney explained. “She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn’t know how to love herself unless someone else loves her.”
She went on to say that she understands how creator Sam Levinson “got her to where she was in season 3.”
“I think she was more excited by the idea of all these people loving her and knowing who she is and feeling like her world isn’t small,” Sydney continued.
Sydney also detailed conversations she had with Sam about the nudity that Cassie’s OnlyFans storyline would require.
“He sent me all the scripts and it already had all of Cassie’s scenes in it, the OnlyFans scenes, and he called me afterwards, and he was talking about it, and we talking through it all,” she recalled. “He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him, ‘Look, I’m playing a character.’”
Sydney then made it clear that while she doesn’t agree with all of Cassie’s decisions, she understands that she has a job to do.
“Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not,” Sydney stressed. “But I’m an actor and that’s my job, and this is Cassie’s life, and to be able to do her justice and play her how she’s to be played is to bring Sam’s vision to life and to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and insane way possible.”
In another recent interview, Sam revealed a rule they had to follow when it came to Sydney’s nude scenes.
