Gwendoline Christie is very on theme in her dress by British designer Giles Deacon at the 2026 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 4) in New York City.
This is the Game of Thrones alum’s third year at the Met Gala after making her debut in 2023. She had a fun mask moment on the red carpet, carrying a mask of her own face

Gwendoline wore a Giles dress while carrying a mask designed to look like her that was created by the British YBA artist Gillian Wearing who won the 1997 Turner Prize.
She has always wanted to wear a Giles Deacon dress
“I’ve wanted to wear Giles for the Met Gala since before I was even in a relationship with Giles, and that’s 13 years ago,” she told Vogue. “So this has been a long time coming.”
The dress was also inspired by three artists that Gwendoline loves. John Singer Sargent is what inspired the gown’s cinched waist and mermaid skirt.
British surrealist photographer Madame Yevonde‘s work was also inspiration for the dress, with Gwendoline telling Vogue that she discovered her work while assisting a friend studying at Central Saint Martins.
“I was fascinated by her photos,” she said.
The gown was also inspired by New York poet and photographer Ira Cohen.
What is the dress code of the Met Gala this year?
The Met Gala is the biggest night in fashion every year and you can expect hundreds of A-List celebrities to be in attendance. The gala is celebrating the Met’s Costume Art exhibition, which “explores the ‘centrality of the dressed body’ through depictions and interpretations of the human form in the Met’s extensive collection.” The dress code this year is “Fashion is Art” and the co-chairs for the gala are Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
